Riverview Middle football dominates Fannin County

The Riverview Middle School Eagles are off to a 2-0 start after defeating Fannin County 46-12 last Thursday in Blue Ridge.

 

“This game was loaded with big plays for the Eagles,” said Riverview Middle School Head Coach Mark Thomason.

 

“We had talked all week about starting fast and then keeping our foot on the gas pedal and I really think we were able to do that. Our offensive line did a great job of opening holes for our running backs and defense played lights out for the second week in a row,” he added.

 

Quarterback Tyler Dominy opened the scoring with a 4-yard quarterback sneak.

 

The extra point was no good and Riverview held a 6-0 lead.

 

Fannin County took the kick-off and returned it for a touchdown to tie the score at 6-6.

 

The Eagles answered on their next possession, when running back Cody Smith broke a tackle and ran 35-yards for a touchdown.

 

Smith converted the extra point and Riverview had a 13-6 lead.

 

Riverview’s special teams blocked a punt on Fannin’s next set of downs. Cole Knight blocked the punt for the Eagles.

 

Coach Thomason’s squad then marched down the field for a third touchdown.

 

Zach Martin took the hand-off and exploded into the end zone.

 

The point after attempt was good and Riverview held a commanding 20-6 advantage.

 

Defensively, the Eagles stepped up again just before halftime.

 

Koby Rogers intercepted an errant Fannin pass to stop a drive.

 

The score remained 20-6 at the half.

 

The Eagles blew the game open in the second half. Smith scored his second touchdown early in the third quarter with a 20-yard run.

 

The PAT was no good. Riverview was on top 26-6.

 

Cole Knight picked off a pass on defense setting up the Riverview offense in great position.

 

Riverview wasted no time as Bruce Clark broke off a 15-yard TD run.

 

The PAT was good, to give Riverview a 33-6 lead.

 

The Eagles added two more touchdowns before the final whistle blew.

 

Martin ripped a ball away from a Fannin running back to score another TD.

 

Quarterback Cole Knight then scored on a 2-yard run to finish the scoring.

 

Riverview will play host to Pickens County Middle School this Thursday.

 

Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
