Team breaks records

There were a number of school records broken last week by the Dawson County girls and boys track teams.

  

Three records were set by Lady Tiger track members: Jade Hyde set a new pole vault mark at 7’7,” Kimberly Wallace in the long jump with a leap of 16’0” and Tiffanie Rowan lowered the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 18 seconds.

  

On the boys’ side, Rush Davenport broke a record held for five years by Dawson County High School alum Chris Jacobs in the 200 meters. Davenport set a new school record of 23.38.

  

As a team, the girls are performing very well against some tough competition.

  

The Lady Tigers are currently 5-2 with wins over West Hall, Johnson, East Hall and Chestatee.

  

On March 26 both teams ran in a dual meet against West Hall at Tiger Stadium in Dawsonville. The girls came away with a 70-66 win, while the boys were triumphant 70-64.

  

Winning events for the Lady Tigers were: Crystal Pittman (shot put) 27’0”; Kimberly Wallace (long jump) 15’3’’ and (Triple Jump) 30’5.5’’; Madalyn Walters 1600 meter, 5:34 and 800 meter, 2:38; and the 4x100 relay team of Judith Hall, Gracie Hovan, Kimberly Wallace, Kerstin Hlinski with a time of 54.51.

  

On the boys’ side, individual winners were: Zach Paz (shot put) 36’4’’ and (discus) 94’3’’; Art Brown (pole vault) 10’0’’; Jonathon Erickson 3200 meter, 11:15; Rush Davenport 100 meter, 11.6 and 200 meters; Zach Wilkins 110 high hurdles, 17.09; the 4x100 relay team of Tyler Thurmond, Zach Wilkins, Art Brown and Rush Davenport, with a time of 47.86; and the 4x400 m relay team of Tyler Thurmond, Zach Wilkins, David Gormley and Rush Davenport, with a time of 3:55.

  

On March 30 both teams traveled to East Hall High School for a meet with West Hall, Johnson and East Hall.

  

The Lady Tigers captured second place to West Hall.

  

The Lady Spartans accumulated 103 points to Dawson’s 91. Johnson finished in third place with 23 points, and East Hall finished in fourth place with 22 points.

  

Individual winners for Dawson were: Hayden Wilson (discus), 90’10”; Jade Hyde (pole vault), 7’7” school record; Kimberly Wallace in the (long jump), 15’10.5’’ school record and (triple jump), 31’1’’; Madalyn Walters in the (1600-meter), 5:43and (3200-meter), 12:05; Kerstin Hlinski in the (200-meter), 28.16 and (400-meter), 64.95.

  

The boys’ team finished in fourth place with 40 points.

  

Luke Parks in the pole vault (11’1”) and Rush Davenport 200-meter (23.41), for a new school record, were the only winners for the Tigers.

  

In their third meet of the week, Dawson squared off with Chestatee High School. The girls dominated, winning 82-54, while the boys narrowly escaped with a 69-67 victory.

  

The Tigers 4x400 team, in the last race of the meet, won to clinch the victory.

  

The four-member team consists of Tyler Thurmond, Zach Wilkins, David Gormley and Rush Davenport.

  

Also winning for the Tigers were Zach Paz (shot put), Tyler Thurmond (long jump), Matt Keller (triple jump), Rush Davenport in the 100 and 200 meter, Jonathon Erickson 3200 meter, Zach Wilkins in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. And the 4x100 relay team of Thurmond, Keller, Wilkins and Davenport.

  

On the girls’ side individual winners included: Hayden Wilson in the discus, Kimberly Wallace set her school record in the long jump, Gracie Hovan-triple jump, Madalyn Walters 1600 and 3200 meters, Kerstin Hlinski - 400 meters, Kimberly Wallace - 100 meters, Tiffanie Rowan in the 100-meter high hurdles (school record), Kayla Schandera - 300 meter low hurdles, 4x100 relay team of Rowan, Hovan, Wallace, Hlinski and the 4x400 meter relay team of Walters, Morgan Williams, Rowan and Hlinski.

  

Both teams are off for spring break this week. They will be back in action on April 13. Both teams will travel to White County.
