Dawson County High School Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Jed Lacey’s team picked up two wins last week against Banks County, 4-0, and Calvary Baptist, 7-2, before losing to Benedictine, 4-2, on Saturday.

The team is currently 4-2 on the season.

Mauricio Escobar was the star last Tuesday in Homer against Banks County.

Escobar had a hat trick, he scored three goals in an easy win over the Leopards.

Sam Wentworth added the other goal for Dawson County.

“We controlled the whole game,” said Lacey. “This was our first region game of the year and it is nice to start out in region with a win.”

Jose Miranda added two assists for the Tigers.

“Jose just makes a difference. The scary part is he is still learning the game,” Lacey said.

Sam Edwards had another great game in goal for Dawson. He earned his second shutout of the season. Edwards stopped 13 shots on goal for Lacey’s squad.

Dawson jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Escobar.

After halftime, the Tigers added three more goals to completely dominant the second half.

Defense was the story behind the play of Tigers Ethan Brown, Cody McGinnis, Eian Perry and Cody Hall.

The midfielders for Dawson also had a great game.

Tyler Freeman, Stanton Rogers and Alex Cote seemed to control the midfield area, according to Lacey.

Dawson traveled to Savannah to play Calvary Baptist and Benedictine this past weekend.

Highlights of the game were unavailable at press time.

Lacey and his team will travel to Rabun County on Friday for a region game at 7 p.m.

The team will also play in a tournament at Winder High School this Saturday before returning home against Towns County for a 7 p.m. kickoff next Tuesday, March 23.
