Middle school Tigers look to improve

POSTED: March 2, 2010 4:00 p.m.

The Dawson County Middle School Tiger soccer team is hoping for a much improved squad this season, according to Head Coach Frank Brown.

Dawson played two games last week against Gilmer County and rival Riverview Middle School.

The team looked impressive against Gilmer County and scored two goals in a 2-0 win on Tuesday.

Cole Edwards and Dalton Edwards, no relation, scored for Dawson County.

"We really played well for the first time out of the box," said Brown. "I knew Gilmer would be a tough game. Our defense played well, keeping the ball out of the goal."

Against Riverview on Thursday, the team didn't fare so well. Despite a hard fought effort, the Eagles came out on top 1-0.

"Riverview pretty much out played us in every area," said Brown. "We could not match up with there speed. We did have some opportunities, but could not find the goal. I thought our goalie, Brooks Fulford, played well."

"We are looking forward to a great season," said Brown. "We have several returning players which helps a bunch."

Members of this year's team are:  Zach Arceneneaux, Eli Brown, Mason Carr, Cole Edwards, Dalton Edwards, Brooks Fulford, Kyle Hayes, Logan Hayes, Jake Lete, Josh Litherland, Camron Millholland, Jacob Miller, Sam Muenchen, Jackson Putnam, Bailey Reins and Randy Schultz. This year's manager is Grant Griffin.

The Tigers will play at home against Pickens this Friday. Dawson will also host Union next Tuesday. Both games will start at 4 p.m.
