A cardiac condition was determined to be the cause of death of a woman who died last week in her car in western Dawson County

Sandra Tamasi, 73, of Dawsonville, was traveling north on Hubbardsville Road, near the Cherokee County line, Feb. 9 when her Nissan Pathfinder left the roadway and came to a stop against a tree.

Originally considered to be the first traffic fatality in the county in 2010, Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden said Monday that Tamasi died of natural causes rather than from injuries sustained in the wreck.

“She died a natural death that just happened to occur while she was driving the car,” Bearden said.

Bearden said last week Tamasi had an extensive medical record. An autopsy was performed after no visible sign of external injuries from the wreck were found.

“She was traveling at a very low rate of speed when she left the road. We’re not sure if she realized something was wrong and tried to slow down when she wrecked,” he said last week.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol post in Cumming said the wreck was reported at about 2:45 p.m.

Bearden said it was clear Tamasi had been in the car for a while when emergency officials were notified.A memorial service was held in Dawsonville over the weekend for Tamasi, Bearden said.
