Defense has been a strong point for the junior varsity Lady Tigers all year.

It was evident again last Wednesday, as Dawson County limited East Jackson to only five first half points on its way to a 28-18 win.

It was the last game of the regular season for Dawson.

Head Coach Jed Lacey’s team finished with a 6-8 record for the season.

“I am sad this season is coming to a close, because spending so many hours learning, teaching and competing together, makes you get so close to your players,” said Lacey.

Leading the offense was Kaitlyn Pain with 10 points.

Pain was followed by Morgan Huber with six and Kacie Bearden with five points. Whitney Glover grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers.

“We lived and died with defense this year and we played stellar defense again, holding East Jackson to 5 points in the first half. That set the tone for the whole game,” Lacey said.

“I thought Whitney (Glover) controlled the boards, she is a machine. She just plays with passion and heart and does not know the meaning of quit. Whitney will now finish the season with the varsity.

“I feel like a proud parent. You get to see these girls improve and get better. Now, it’s their turn to move and play at the next level,” added Lacey.

“It was a great way to end the season, with a big win.”
