Dr. Marlene C. Anthony

Dr. Marlene C. Anthony, 63, of Dawson County, died Sunday, June 15, 2008.

Marlene was born May, 7 1945 in Rowan County, N.C. and resided in Dawsonville. She was a retired Professor of Education at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega.

While at NGCSU she had many accomplishments. The one she was most proud of was the Polish Teacher Exchange Program that she started along with her husband in 2002.

Survivors include her husband, Jacek Tlalka; two daughters, Gretchen Anthony and Irena Tlalka; two sons, Justin Anthony and Marek Tlalka; three sisters, Dot (Alby) Eller, Terry Christopher, Jo (Vernon) Overcash; one brother, Harold Christopher; five grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were at Lutheran Chapel Church in China Grove, N.C., Sunday, June 22. The service took place at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary.

An additional ceremony, which will be a Celebration of Her Life, will take place at the Gold Creek Club House in Dawsonville, Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m.

In memory of Dr. Anthony, it is asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Polish Teacher Exchange Fund/North Georgia College and State University, Dunlap Hall, Dahlonega, GA 30597, or the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or (800) ACS-2345.

Cremation Society of the South of Marietta was in charge of the arrangements.
