The seventh grade Riverview Middle School Lady Eagles won its first game of the Mountain League Tournament, 34-11, over Clear Creek on Feb. 1 at Pickens County Middle School.

Riverview was eliminated from the tournament by Union County on Friday at Jasper Middle School, ending its season. Riverview came into the tournament as the No. 2-seed.

Despite getting off to a slow start against Clear Creek, holding only a 3-point lead, the Lady Eagles pushed their advantage to 16-5 at half time.

Riverview’s defense was key, and held the Lady Bobcats to no points in the second and third quarters. With the strong defensive performance, Riverview was able to secure a 23-point win.

Ashley Parker led Riverview in scoring with 16 points. Taylor Bennett also had a good game offensively with eight points. Joy Lewis added four points in the win, followed by Sam Keeney, Taylor Grindstaff and Hannah McConnell each with two points.

On Friday, the Lady Eagles fell to Union County after a three point shot with only seconds remaining on the clock. Union came away with the 26-24 win.

With the loss, Riverview’s season came to a close.

“It was a hard loss for us,” said Head Coach Libby Roper. “I’m proud of all the girls and I anticipate an even better season next year.”

Ashley Parker led all Lady Eagle scorers with a game-high 22 points. Parker scored 22 of the 24 points made by Riverview. McKay Shively added the other two points for the Lady Eagles.
