The Dawson County High School varsity Tiger basketball team picked up two wins last week.

On Jan. 6 the Tigers played host to Lambert High School from Forsyth County. Head Coach Thad Burgess’ team came away with a 50-39 victory.

Saturday, the team traveled to Atlanta for an afternoon game with The Galloway School.

Once again, the Tigers were victorious with a 66-46 win.

Dawson is currently 13-3 overall.

Friday night’s game at North Oconee was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The game has been tentatively rescheduled for Jan. 21.

The game versus Lambert High School was the first game back after Christmas break.

The Tigers offense was sluggish in the first half, only scoring 13 points.

Lambert took advantage and went into halftime with a 20-13 lead.

“After the long layoff we struggled with conditioning and shooting in the first half, but I thought our defense kept us in the game,” Burgess said.

Whatever Burgess said to his team in the locker room worked.

The Tigers came out on fire offensively for the final two quarters of the game.

Dawson outscored Lambert 37-19 to pick up the big win.

“After we hit a couple of shots it began to open up things for us, then we were able to run some clock and hit our free throws down the stretch. It was a nice win against a bigger school that plays in a very difficult Hall County region,” Burgess said.

Point guard Stephen Scaife led all Tiger scorers with 18 points. Jacob Evans also managed double digits with 14 points.

Also scoring for Dawson were: Tyler Dominy-8; Stephen Johnson-7; Levi Wilson-2; and Grant Shope with one point.

Lambert was led offensively by Keenan Vadez with 14 points.

Stephen Scaife, Tyler Dominy and Levi Wilson all scored in double digits to lead Dawson to a big 20-point win over Galloway on Saturday.

Scaife scored a team leading 15 points, followed by Dominy’s 13 points and Wilson’s 12 points.

Burgess and his team will travel to Riverside Military Academy on Friday to participate in a Region 8-AA game. Tip-off for the game will be at 5:30 p.m.

The Tigers will then make the long bus trip to Tiger to face Rabun County next Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The game against the Wildcats is also a region game.
