Lady Tigers defeat Lady Eagles

POSTED: December 15, 2009 5:10 p.m.

The Dawson County seventh grade girls basketball team won a thriller over Riverview Middle School on Dec. 10. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Eagles  by a 22-21 score.

Sheyenne Seabolt was fouled with 10 seconds remaining and Dawson down by one, 21-20. Seabolt converted both free throws to give Dawson the one point lead, 22-21.

Riverview inbounded the ball and a got a shot off at the buzzer but missed, giving the Lady Tigers a victory.

“We had a chance at the buzzer, but it just didn’t go in. It was a very intense game for not only the players and coaches but the spectators as well. I thought we played very good defense in the second half limiting Dawson’s scoring chances,” said Riverview Head Coach Elizabeth Roper.

“I was proud that the girls held their composure and were able to pull out the win in a pressure situation,” said Dawson County Head Coach Tina Brown.

Seabolt led all scorers for Dawson County with 13 points.

Also scoring for Dawson County were: Emily Hunsucker, Jordan Moore, Cassidy Lecours and Brooke Wende each with two points. Celeste Chism scored one point in the win.

Leading Riverview in scoring was Ashley Parker with 12 points. Also scoring for the Lady Eagles was Taylor Bennett with four points, Hannah McConnell with three points and Taylor Grindstaff with two points.

“Turnovers really hurt us. We are going to have to calm down and keep the ball under control. We were able to pull it out, but it was a sloppy game,” said Brown.

The rematch game will be Dec. 18 at Riverview Middle School.

Tip off for the seventh grade girls game will be at 4 p.m.
