Volunteers spend a day cleaning the city

Truckloads of litter picked up

Volunteers picked up more than 78 bags of litter, 23 tires and several pieces of scrap metal recently in an effort by Keep Dawson County Beautiful and the Dawson County Marshal's Office to clean up District 2.

Dozens of volunteers arrived early Saturday morning to help clean streets through the city of Dawsonville.

  

Spearheaded by Keep Dawson County Beautiful and the Dawson County Marshal’s Office, volunteers cleared truckloads of litter from about a half a dozen roads in the second district.

  

Cathy Brooks, executive director of Keep Dawson County Beautiful, said that almost 40 volunteers collected trash along Perimeter, Shoal Creek, Etowah River, Frank Bruce and Seed Tick roads.

  

Representatives from the Dawson County Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, treatment court, Dawson County High School, Dawson County government, and several other community organizations collected more than 78 bags, weighing more than 1,500 pounds.

  

The volunteers also picked up 23 tires and several pieces of scrap metal.

  

“We are so thankful to the volunteers who contributed their time and effort to making our vision a reality,” Brooks said. “I appreciate everyone who came out to assist with this effort.”

  

Brooks also thanked Bojangles of Dawsonville, which donated more than 40 biscuits and coffee for the volunteers.

  

Volunteers cleaned up roads in District 1 earlier this year.

  

“We have plans to hold clean ups in Districts 3 and 4 next year,” Brooks said.

  

Saturday’s clean up doubled “our efforts from the spring event,” Brooks said.
