Culinary festival scheduled

Event to raise money for school clubs

POSTED: December 2, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Those looking to help local high school clubs raise money for the upcoming academic year can visit the inaugural Taste of Dawson High, a culinary festival scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school cafeteria.

Sponsored by the Parent Teacher Student Organization, the event will feature food from 12 different restaurants.

PTSO President Karen Armstrong said there will be much variety.

“Mexican food, hot dogs, Japanese ... almost anything you can think of,” Armstrong said.

Those who attend may purchase tickets to redeem for food in the cafeteria.

Tickets are $1 each. Food samples range from one to two tickets each.

Armstrong said a food festival seemed like “a unique way of raising money for our clubs, instead of going door to door or trying to sell candles or candy bars,” she said.

She said the event also serves as “an advertisement to participating restaurants ... they’re donating food, and we’re doing the advertising to kind of let people know where these restaurants are and ... people get to try their food.”

During the event, the Dawson County High School Winter Art Show will display its “Emperor Garden” artwork.

There will also be holiday baskets up for bidding. Funds raised from the baskets go to the PTSO as well.

The PTSO is a new club, which was formed in August. Armstrong said the club hopes to “bridge better communication between teachers, students and parents, and to keep everyone informed.”
