POSTED: December 1, 2009 5:03 p.m.

Dawson County Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a hard fought 37-35 decision over Fannin County Middle School last Thursday in Blue Ridge.

Head Coach Jonathan Tinsley said: “It seemed every time we started to pull away Fannin fought back.

“I’m so proud of my guys for battling through it.”

The game was close throughout. Dawson had a six-point lead with only three minutes remaining. However, Fannin pulled even, 30-30, with one minute left.

“Fannin had a lot of chances to take the game with only a minute to go, but my guys just wouldn’t lose. They played like champions,” said Tinsley.

Jonathan Sanderson led all Tiger scorers with 15 points.

Also scoring for Dawson County were:  Colton Chester with 10 points, Logan Burt and Caleb Steppe with four points, Cameron Millholland and Jackson Putnam with two points each.

The Tigers will play again on Friday, Dec. 4 at Jasper Middle School.
