Secretary of State speaks to chamber members

Third candidate for governor to campaign in Dawson

POSTED: November 18, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Georgia’s Secretary of State Karen Handel made a stop in Dawson County last Thursday as she continues her campaign for governor.

Handel, a Fulton County republican, is the third candidate for governor speaking to the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce in the last few months.

John Oxendine, insurance and safety fire commissioner, and U.S. Representative Nathan Deal also recently addressed the chamber membership.

Both have announced their intentions to run for governor next year.

Handel praised Dawson County for its leadership on the local level and representation around the state.

The former chair of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Handel gave an overview of her duties as secretary of state, which she has held since 2007.

She concluded the luncheon with a question and answer segment.

Questions from the chamber membership focused on Handel’s view of Georgia’s transportation problems and water issues.
