For members of Dawson County’s Little Mountain bluegrass band, it doesn’t get much better than playing for the home crowd.

“They got a show,” band member Ted Bearden said of Saturday night’s crowd, “two standing ovations.”

Bearden, who is also the local coroner, has been playing music most of his life.

Little Mountain, one of North Georgia’s most recognizable bluegrass and gospel bands, headlined the Dawson County Arts Council’s Bluegrass in Dawson.

The first of the ovations came after the band commented about giving the community they call home a first class bluegrass concert from the heart.

With songs ranging from Bill Monroe to classics from Baptist hymnals, the music had the crowd clapping and singing along.

The Georgia Mountain Bluegrass Band, which offered a collection of popular bluegrass and gospel, and the Buzzard Mountain Boys, with their good-hearted Southern humor, entertained the crowd prior to Little Mountain’s performance.

“Despite the rain Saturday during the day, we had a pretty good turnout for the show,” said Carol Tyger, a member of the arts council.

Proceeds from the concert benefit the arts council.
