Whitmire signs golf scholarship

Former DCHS standout headed to NGCSU

Charley Whitmire recently signed a scholarship to play golf at North Georgia College & State University.

Former Dawson County High School golf standout Charley Whitmire has signed to continue her career with North Georgia College & State University.

  

This will be the college’s inaugural season for golf and the school will compete in the NCAA Division II as part of the Peach Belt Conference.

  

Whitmire will join teammates Courtney Hall, sophomore transfer from Piedmont College, Brittany Kemp, sophomore transfer from Truett-McConnell and Amy Lewis a recent graduate from North Hall High School.

  

Tom Fowler will coach the team. Fowler, a native of Jasper, has been a PGA professional since 1994 and serves as the head golf professional for Achasta, which is located just outside of Dahlonega. Achasta will be the home course for the Lady Saints.

  

Tim Whitmire, Charley’s father, commented on his daughter’s signing by saying: “Her mother and I  are so proud of Charley to get an opportunity to play college golf. She wanted to go to North Georgia all along for academics, and golf is big plus. Charley is real excited and is playing really good golf right now.”

  North Georgia will open up its season on Monday, Sept. 21 at Piedmont College in Demorest.
