Bouncing back from a 9-1 drubbing by No. 2-ranked North Oconee (16-1-1) last Thursday in a Region 8-AA game, the Dawson County Lady Tiger softball team went 4-1-1 in the Adairsville Tiger Classic last weekend.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett’s team started the week on Tuesday at Union County. After three innings the skies opened up and the game was called because of rain. The game will be made up later this season.

Thursday, the Lady Tigers made the long trip to Watkinsville to face state ranked North Oconee.

The Lady Titans finished the game in five innings, due to the mercy rule, coming out on top by a 9-1 score.

The only run produced by Dawson was by Kimberly Wallace on an error.

Going into the weekend tournament, Pruett was unsure what to expect.

Friday night the team faced Owasso, Okla. The game ended with a tie, 2-2, due to a tournament imposed time limit.

Later that evening, the team matched up with No.10-ranked AAA Cedartown (19-8) with the Lady Tigers coming out on the short-end of a 3-1 score.

Saturday morning, a rejuvenated Dawson County team swept through the rest of the tournament winning four games.

The team scored 38 runs in four games, while giving up only nine runs.

The winning streak started with a 9-3 drubbing of Walker, followed by wins over Chattooga, 9-5, Dunwoody, 7-1 and Cartersville, 13-0.

Lady Tiger Sydney Cox was named to the all-tournament team during the Adairsville tournament.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action this week traveling to No. 8-ranked AA Banks County Thursday.

The team will then load up the bus on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for another region game in Jefferson.
