Farm Bureau collects food to help hungry Georgians

POSTED: September 16, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Dawson County Farm Bureau is collecting staple food items and monetary donations until Sept. 25., during the statewide Harvest for All Campaign.

Georgia Farm Bureau coordinates the campaign in an effort to help Georgians in need. The monetary donations and food collected during the food drive will be distributed to the Eight Food Banks throughout Georgia.

“Farmers are in the business of feeding Georgia and the United States. As farmers, it’s instinctive that we help our fellow Georgians who are in need, especially during this period of challenging times,” said Pat Gober, president of the Dawson County Farm Bureau.

The top 10 staple food items requested by the food banks are peanut butter, cereal, canned meat, rice, dried beans or peas, macaroni and cheese, boxed pizza, Hamburger Helper, soup and canned vegetables.

If you would like to participate in the food drive, deliver your food or monetary donation between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., to the Dawson County Farm Bureau office, at 674 Hwy. 53, West.

For more information, call Tammy Wood at (706) 265-3350.

The Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s and Young Farmer Committees jointly coordinate the Harvest for All Campaign.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization with more than 400,000 member families statewide.
