Wal-Mart calls for Teacher of the Year nominations

POSTED: August 24, 2008 5:03 a.m.

Do you have a favorite teacher who deserves to be recognized? If so, stop by your local Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club location through Aug. 17 to submit a nomination for the Wal-Mart Foundation’s Teacher of the Year program.

Outstanding educators are eligible for a $1,000 grant for their school and other prizes.

Each Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club location across the U.s. will name a winning Teacher of the Year during the back to school season. Through this year’s program, more than 4,000 teachers nationwide will be recognized, and the Wal-Mart Foundation will donate close to $5 million in recognition of the teachers’ service and dedication to their communities.

Teacher of the Year honorees receive $1,000 for their school, a $100 gift card to buy supplies for their classroom and a personalized certificate.

Last year the Wal-Mart Foundation provided more than $67 million in support of educational initiatives.
