Cunningham prepares to start for Tennessee

POSTED: August 18, 2009 4:30 p.m.

After biding his time for three seasons at the University of Tennessee, punter Chad Cunningham is expected to be the team’s starting punter when the season begins on Sept. 5.

Cunningham, a 2006 graduate of Dawson County High, played sparingly last fall and averaged 39.5 yards per punt. He recently told Scout.com that he’s expecting better results this season.

“I think I’m hitting the ball really well,” he said. “I’ve been hitting it really consistent with really great hang times. I just feel really comfortable. This is the best camp that I’ve ever had.”
