Alman Lee Cox

Alman Lee Cox, 92, of Cumming, died Aug. 3, 2008.

 

A native of Forsyth County, he was born Oct. 9, 1915 in the Matt community.

 

He served in the Army for 10 years as a Private and Mess Sergeant.

 

He was married for 60 years to Marie Clay Cox, who passed away in 2001. He was an avid fisherman, an excellent cook and a wonderful dad.

 

He owned and operated several restaurants in metro Atlanta in the 1950s. He returned to Cumming in January 1959, where he ran Cox’s Restaurant on Main Street until 1967.

 

Mr. Cox and his wife, Marie, lived in Brookhaven until 1978 when they retired back to Forsyth County near Lake Lanier.

 

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and having fish fries for family and neighbors.

 

Survivors include his children and in-laws, Virginia (Molie) and Clinton Wheeler of Norcross, Ray (Scooter) and Amy Cox of Dawsonville, Mrs. Lois (Faye) Caldwell of Duluth; grandchildren, Alicia and Mark Kemptner, Darrell and Shelley Cox, Rodney Cox and fiancée Danielle Waters, Ottum and Brian Barcus; great-grandchildren, Shelby Kemptner, Sydney Cox, Riley Cox and Silas Cox; brother, Jay Cox (102-years-old) and sister-in-law, Betty Cox; sister, Wreatha Smith; brother-in-law, Lyle (Smitty) Smith; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. John Lummus and Gerald Blackburn officiating.

 

Interment followed at Luxomini Cemetery in Lilburn.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were requested to be made to the Forsyth County Senior Center Meals on Wheels, (770) 781-2178.

 

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
