Middle school teacher resigns following arrest

A Dawson County Middle School teacher has resigned following his arrest in Forsyth County last month on a felony drug charge.

  

Clinton Ernest Pruitt, 35, was released from the Forsyth County jail on July 14 after posting $27,500 bond on a charge of possession with intent to distribute 14 grams of methamphetamine.

  

Dawson County School Superintendent Keith Porter said the school board “accepted Mr. Pruitt’s letter of resignation with official action at the Aug. 4, 2009 meeting.”

  

“Mr. Pruitt is no longer employed by the Dawson County School System,” Porter said.

  

In the July 31 letter, Pruitt said that he enjoyed his employment with the school system, but felt it was in his best interest to resign his teaching position, effective that day.

  

Pruitt was a teacher at Dawson County Middle, but also had worked at Riverview, the district’s other middle school.

  

Forsyth County Sheriff’s investigators have said that Pruitt brought drugs from an undercover operative in a parking lot on Hammond Industrial Drive, off Browns Bridge Road in northeastern Forsyth County.

  

Pruitt had been under investigation, authorities said, after it came to their attention he “was wanting to by methamphetamine.”
