Local 4-H’er competes at state contest

Becca Bishop placed second at 4-H State Congress.

State 4-H Congress competition, held recently in Atlanta, decided the best in the state in 4-H, and Becca Bishop, daughter of Donald and Joan Bishop, competed in the Plants and Soil Science Project. 


The honor highlights a year of hard work for Bishop.


Over the last several weeks, she has been active with her work on the farm, selling vegetables at the local farmers market and competing with the local swim team.


Competition for State Congress begins in the fall of the previous year when a portfolio is completed.


The portfolio receives a score out of 200 points.


Then, in March, 4-H’ers travel to Rock Eagle 4-H Center for district project achievement. By placing first, the next stop is State Congress in July.


All of her hard work paid off with a second place medal at the state event.


Bishop will be recognized for her accomplishments this year, along with other 4-H members, at the annual 4-H Awards program later this fall.
