Tryouts set for softball

POSTED: July 21, 2009 4:30 p.m.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett has announced that tryouts for the high school softball team will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 3. All girls interested in trying out for the team must meet at the high school field at 6:45 p.m.

Each interested participant must possess a current Georgia High School Association physical and a copy of their insurance card. Forms can be picked up at the front desk at Dawson County High School.

Players interested must also bring a glove, softball cleats, bat and wear appropriate softball attire to tryouts.

Players should also bring clothes to wear inside the gym in case of inclement weather.

Last year, Pruett and his squad finished the season with an 18-13 overall record.

The Lady Tigers were eliminated from the North State Sectionals by Lovett, 1-0.

The team graduated two seniors, catcher Kayla Grizzle and third baseman Brea Haygood.

The Lady Tigers return a strong nucleus of players that include seniors Tiffany Rowan (outfield), Amanda Gravitt (third base) and Sydney Cox (pitcher).

Pruett also has four returning juniors who should produce a lot of firepower. This year’s prospective juniors include Katie Pulley (second base), Cheyenne Bennett (pitcher), Sydney Crumley (shortstop) and Amber Youngblood (outfield).

Also returning will be rising sophomores Kimberly Wallace (catcher) and Morgan Huber.

For more information, call Pruett at (706) 265-6555.
