Atlanta Junior Golf visits Chestatee

POSTED: July 8, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Charley Whitmire and Wesley Bearden, Dawson County High School golfers, competed in yesterday’s Atlanta Junior Golf tournament held at Chestatee Golf Club. Whitmire teed off at noon, while Bearden began his play at 10:10 a.m.

Results were not available at press time.

The event was the first Atlanta Junior Golf event this summer for both golfers.

Players competed in the single day, 18-hole event, within their age division, earning points to qualify for one of the four season-ending tournaments held at the end of July.

The Atlanta Junior Golf Association, entering its 35th year, plays host to 27 events during the summer months across many Metro Atlanta and North Georgia counties. Boys and girls, ages 7-18, have several chances to play golf in these tournaments during the summer.

The Atlanta Junior Golf Association is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization and gains its funding through memberships, sponsorships and contributions.
