Georgia Right to Life to hold conference

POSTED: June 24, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Georgia Right to Life will host the North Georgia Conference from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 27 in Dawsonville at the Church on War Hill, located off Hwy. 53 East.

‘How to Be Pro-Life in the 21st Century,’ is the theme of this year’s conference, which seeks to answer questions that need to be answered now, in terms of preserving the sanctity of human life in this century and into the next.

The conference will be divided into two main sessions: The History of Pro-Life Movement, which outlines the church’s involvement in sanctity of life issues from its inception, and How to Be Pro-Life in the 21st Century, which takes a look at all the advances that are taking place in the emerging, brave, new world of biotechnology.

“The church has, in every century, been an outspoken advocate for the sanctity of life,” said Dan Becker, president of Georgia Right to Life.

“Everyone who has seen this presentation has been encouraged to be that voice in our own 21st century,” he added.

The second session poses the question of whether it is possible to be anti-abortion without being against things such as stem cell research and cloning.

“The fast pace of medical breakthroughs in the 21st century is exciting, as well as challenging, because we have not yet established the bioethical standards that protect innocent human life,” commented Becker.

“Georgia Right to Life is on the cutting edge of providing the pro-life leadership needed to effectively protect the sanctity of life in the 21st century,” he added.
