Junior named to All-Area team

Chase Gilreath was the only member of the Dawson County baseball team to be named to the Gainesville Times All-Area baseball team.

Dawson County Tiger junior shortstop Chase Gilreath was recently named to the Gainesville Times All-Area team as an honorable mention.

  

Gilreath batted .532 for the season with seven homeruns.

  

First team shortstop was K.J. McAllister of North Hall High School. McAllister had a .449 batting average with six homers and 34 RBIs.

  

Second team shortstop was Drew Adams of East Hall High School. The junior batted .427 with four homers and 28 RBIs.

  

Joining Gilreath as honorable mention shortstops were Haughton Carswell, senior, Lakeview; Hayden Cummins, sophomore, White County; Chad Goff, junior, West Hall and Logan Pethel, junior, Johnson.

  

Lakeview Academy pitcher Ralston Cash was named player-of-the-year.

  

Cash, a junior, finished the season with a 9-0 record, which included a no-hitter against Athens Academy in a state play-off game. Cash also recorded a 0.97 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 57.2 innings of work.

  

Coach-of-the-year was Jimmy Lawler of Flowery Branch.

  

His Falcons finished the season with a 20-7 record and a second place finish in Region 7-AAA.
