Golfers fare well

Whitmire named First Team All-Area

POSTED: June 2, 2009 4:44 p.m.

Dawson County High School Senior Charley Whitmire was named to the first team All-Area girls’ golf team by the Gainesville Times last week.

Whitmire was the No. 1 golfer on Head Coach Shari Chastain’s third place Region 8-AA team last season.

Whitmire, who consistently shot in the low 80’s, joined a select group of lady golfers from the area.

Camryn Cole, junior, from Gainesville High School was named golfer of the year by the paper. Also on the first team were Jennifer Brueshaber from Jefferson and Abby Johnson from Buford.

Johnson will be attending the University of Georgia on a golf scholarship.

On the boys’ side, Dawson County placed two golfers on the honorable mention team. Wesley Bearden, sophomore, and Cody Palmer, junior, were selected from all high schools throughout the area.

Both Bearden and Palmer will return next season for Head Coach Van Samples’ Tiger team.
