Cox named DCMS Teacher of the Year

POSTED: May 27, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Dawson County Middle School announced Paula Cox as its 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year on May 11.

“DCMS is very fortunate to have such an exemplary teacher as Paula Cox on its staff,” said principal, Dr. Mark Merges.

Merges presented Cox with a plaque and customized rocking chair during a special recognition ceremony for Cox earlier this month.

“Nominated by her fellow teachers and other school staff members, Cox is dedicated to her sixth grade students and graciously supports the needs of everyone around her,” he added.

An educator for 11 years, Cox, along with her husband Michael Cox (also a teacher at the school), has  been with Dawson County Schools for seven years.

“Getting kids to believe that they can do anything they want to do is why I am a teacher and what I like most about my job,” Cox said.

Honored to be named teacher of the year, Cox says she believes that all teachers deserved to be named teacher of the year.

“I am proud to represent Dawson County Middle School,” she said.

“We have so many great teachers in this county.”

She continued to say that Dawson County, in particular, is an exceptional school system to work in.

“I am appreciative of the fact that this county views teachers as professionals that have the capability to lead and guide students in a positive direction, as well as the support we get from administration and the board of education.” she said.
