1 killed in wreck

Fatality is fourth of year in Dawson

POSTED: May 13, 2009 4:00 a.m.

A Marble Hill businessman was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle just west of Dawsonville.

Authorities said Ronnie A. Voyles, 54, was taken to North Fulton Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

No one else was injured in the head-on collision, which happened about 2 p.m. near Hwy. 53 and Elliott Family Parkway. Authorities said it appeared the driver of the SUV, whose name has not been released, crossed the centerline.

A Georgia State Patrol specialized reconstruction team is scheduled to investigate the wreck Thursday, said Trooper Kirby with the patrol's Calhoun post.

Voyles' death is the fourth of 2009 on Dawson County roads.

Three local teenagers lost their lives in separate wrecks between February and April.

Kolton Findley, 18, was killed April 17 in a one-vehicle wreck on Hugh Stowers Road.

Nearly a month earlier, on March 11, 16-year-old Jake Fausett, died when he lost control of his vehicle on Hwy. 136 on the way home from school.

A two-vehicle wreck on Feb. 23 on Coltrane Road claimed the life of 18-year-old Tyler Hutchison.

There were 10 fatalities on Dawson County roads in 2008.

A native of Dawson County, Voyles had lived in Pickens County for more than 20 years. He owned and operated The Table Maker.

Voyles is survived by his mother, Mary Voyles of Dawsonville; sisters, Carolyn Loggins of Indiana, Katherine Page of Richmond, Va., Lisa Long of Dawsonville; and a brother, Gary Voyles, also of Dawsonville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Poss officiating.

The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
