Edward Maurice Marteny

Edward Maurice Marteny, 87, of Dawsonville, died Friday, April 24, 2009.

  

Mr. Marteny was born in St. Joseph, Mo., Feb. 12, 1922, the son of the late Blanche Tee Wineland and John Thomas Marteny.

  

He graduated in 1941 from St. Joseph Jr. College with an associate degree in engineering and in 1943 from the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

  

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Naval Ordnance Development Lab at Johns Hopkins University.

  

He retired in 1973 after working for nearly 30 years for Lago Oil and Transport Co. in Aruba.

  

In recent years, he was a volunteer for Mended Hearts, Meals on Wheels and the school-mentoring program.

  

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

  

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy; son, John Marteny of Tusayan, Ariz.; daughter, Ann Catherine and son-in-law, Steve Miller of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Tyler and Nicholas Miller; sister, Catherine Smith of Lee's Summit, Mo.; various other relatives also survive.

  

No services are scheduled at this time.

  

Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
