Teams are still forming for Dawson County Rotary Club’s annual charity golf tournament to be held at Chestatee Golf Club next Tuesday.
As of late last week, about half those expected to play May 12 had registered and paid their $125 individual or $500 team fee.
In its 17th year, the tournament continues to be the club’s largest annual fundraiser, which funds a number of causes, both locally and abroad.
“Service Above Self is our Creed as a local club and as a member of the Rotary International Organization, we are striving to meet the challenges of today to be better stewards of all our tomorrows,” said tournament chairman Will Wade.
Proceeds benefit organizations such as the senior center, fire department, library, sheriff’s office, schools, park and recreation, the literacy center, chamber of commerce and arts council, locally.
“Especially in economic times like these that we all are facing, it is imperative that our community members continue to work together to help provide time, energy, effort and funds to so many of our fellow citizens,” Wade said.
Several organizations outside Dawson County, like North Georgia College & State University and a children’s literacy project in Guatemala, also receive funding from the tournament.
“Though so many are struggling with the economic crisis and it seems to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind, I can say that the Rotary Club of Dawson County is still focused on making a difference each and every day,” he added.
Registration for the Ft. Lauderdale four-person, team scramble begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Chestatee Golf Club is located at 777 Dogwood Lane, Dawsonville. Entry fees include green fees and cart rental, box lunch prior to play, gift bag, door prizes and raffles, silent auction and a catered dinner by Longhorns. Mulligans are $10 each.
Prizes will be given for first and second place low gross and net, the longest drive, most accurate drive, closest to the pin and a putting contest.
John Megel Chevrolet has also sponsored prizes on each par 3 hole.
