Cunningham wraps up spring practice

University of Tennessee punter Chad Cunningham averaged 42 yards per punt April 18 as the Vols wrapped up spring training with the annual Orange and White game at Neyland Stadium.

The 2006 Dawson County High School graduate’s longest kick was 47 yards.

Cunningham is a second year letterman for the Vols under new head coach Lane Kiffin. He has played in 17 games in his career with 7 starts.

The former Tiger has had a distinguished career at UT so far. Cunningham earned an Southeastern Conference freshman academic award during his first season in Knoxville.

In the 2007 season he had a kick off of 75 yards in a game and had a 40.7 average punting for the season.

Last season Cunningham started in five games and punted 25 times for a 39.5 averages. His longest kick was 57 yards against SEC foe Auburn.

His best effort was in his final start against Northern Illinois when Cunningham punted three times for a 45.3 average. He finished the season with 11 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

Cunningham has two more years of eligibility left in his career at Tennessee. Cunningham will graduate in the fall with a degree in sports management.

Cunningham is the son of Rory Cunningham, who lettered in 1980 at offensive guard.
