Bank to host poker run to support Relay for Life

POSTED: April 8, 2009 4:00 a.m.

United Community Bank’s Junior Board of Directors is at it again, planning another community service event.

On April 18, beginning with breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Pool Room in downtown Dawsonville, the group is sponsoring a Poker Run in order to raise funds to donate to Dawsonville’s Relay for Life event May 8-9.

“When the students were presented with the idea of this event, they loved it,” said Kara Hewatt, junior board advisor and marketing coordinator for United Community Banks 400 branch.

“They (junior board) are looking forward to it and excited to be donating to such a worthy cause,” she said.

Registration will begin around 9 a.m. on the 18th, $30 for one poker hand or $45 for two.  All pre-registered riders will receive an event t-shirt.

Planning for about five to six stops during the run, riders will wind their way up to Dahlonega, and through the mountains before making the final stop at Beef O’Brady’s in Dawsonville.

Sponsorships for the event are still available, and according to Hewatt, any business that contributes $100 or more will have their business name on the back of the event shirt.

For more information, contact Hewatt at (706) 256-3232, Ext. 1126.
