Renovation under way at state park lodge

A makeover at Amicalola Falls State Park lodge is on schedule to be complete in time for the fall season.

The first phase of the $5 million renovation is under way.

General Manager Cynthia Segers said the complete redesign includes upgrades to all 57 guests rooms, the lodge lobby and restaurant, as well as major improvements to the park's rustic cabins.

"All the rooms will be completely brand new. The cabins are getting upgraded, getting new floors, new furniture. The lodge rooms, they're redesigning the bathrooms," she said.

Unlike many chain hotel chains that require upgrades and renovations typically on an every 10 year schedule, the lodge, a state-owned entity, has not undergone a major revamping since opening in 1989.

"It is well past due. I'm excited to be here and make it happen. It has been in the works for some time now," Segers said.

Drawing from the surrounding beauty of Amicalola Falls, the redesign will incorporate modern, craftsman-style furnishings and artwork highlighting the north Georgia mountains.

Additionally, the Maple Restaurant will receive a new outdoor dining area overlooking the mountains.


The meeting area on the lower level and each public restroom will also be transformed to better suit parties, weddings and business outings.

The lodge will remain open during the renovation.
