Humane Society plans to open a boutique

POSTED: July 2, 2014 4:00 a.m.

The Dawson County Humane Society is trying a new method of raising money for its no-kill shelter.

The boutique will be an "upscale resale shop" located on Lumpkin Campground road, just south of the Hwy. 53 intersection, in the shopping center near Bethel United Methodist Church.

"Due to the size of the space we will need to schedule all donations for the shop, so please save your treasures so we may coordinate with you on receiving them," said society board member Terri Tragesser.

The first drop off date has been scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

She said she hopes the shop will be open in the coming month.

"We have just obtained access to the property and volunteers are cleaning, painting and planning so we can open as soon as possible," Tragesser said. "We hope to be open mid-July with a grand opening to follow once we get all the kinks ironed out.

Items sold at the boutique will include small furniture items, decorative household items, jewelry, handbags and hats.

"Due to space limitations, we will not be taking clothing at this time," Tragesser said. "Items donated will need to be in good, clean condition."

All items donated will be fully tax deductible.

It is the society's hope that visitors from all over will be attracted to the store.

"It is our vision that both local and non-local shoppers from the north Georgia region will visit and shop," Tragesser said. "By establishing a pattern of supporters donating quality, good condition items and also shopping for treasures while at the shop, it will be a fun and successful experience for all and will especially benefit the animals."

All profits from the shop will go to support the shelter's operations and building improvements.

For more information, to volunteer or to schedule donations, contact Tragesser (706) 265-6360 or (706) 429-5400) or Diane Kulish at (706) 429-6695.
