A local elementary school teacher was among two people arrested last week after authorities responded to reports of a burglary at her colleague's home in neighboring Gilmer County.

According to the sheriff's office in Gilmer, 41-year-old Nicole Leigh Cagle of Dawsonville has been charged with party to a crime-terroristic threats for reportedly traveling to the woman's home "for the purpose to harass, intimidate or threaten" her.

Dianne Allison, a spokeswoman for the Dawson County school system, confirmed that both Cagle and the female complainant are teachers at Robinson Elementary. Cagle has taught there since 2005.

Dawson County School Superintendent Damon Gibbs is aware of the situation. "We are investigating internally and working with law enforcement to reach a conclusion," he said.

The arrest stems from a June 22 incident in which Cagle and a man reportedly approached the home of her colleague on Chatawa Court in Ellijay.

The second suspect, 37-year-old Stephen Ray Sanford of Ellijay, faces charges of terroristic threats and acts and possession of methamphetamine, as well as an open container violation.

According to an incident report released by the Gilmer Sheriff's Office, Sanford told deputies he went to the home because he was having a sexual relationship with the homeowner, whom he had met at his son's school.

Sanford went on to say he and Cagle, whom he described as a "buddy's wife," were at the woman's home because "they only wanted to talk to her," according to the incident report.

They were allegedly banging loudly on the home's doors and windows when the resident called 911 to report a burglary.

After arriving to find that all four tires on the woman's Lexus SUV were flat, deputies questioned Cagle and Sanford.

The valve stems from the tires, along with a valve stem removal, were later found in Sanford's pocket.

A small, silver container with "three corner cut baggies" containing suspected methamphetamine residue were also found in Sanford's possession, according to the incident report.
