ASK THE EXPERTS

Tigers working over summer break

POSTED: June 24, 2014 5:12 p.m.

The Dawson County High School Tiger boys' basketball team continues to work hard this summer.

Last week Dawson County played games at Chestatee on June 17 before playing at North Forsyth on June 19.

The team then travelled to Athens to play one-day at the University of Georgia team camp.

Head Coach Thad Burgess' squad attended a team camp at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama June 22-23.

"Between a couple of players hurt, a couple having baseball, it is giving others a chance to get extra playing time and we are gaining depth by that happening," Burgess said.

"I am trying to make some difficult decisions on trying to figure out who plays good together, competes and buys into what we are trying to do this summer. With so many new faces, trips where we are away from everyone, like Birmingham and Auburn, give me and players a chance to really learn a lot about each other besides just basketball," he added.

Burgess said that by the end of summer practices he hopes to have a good feel for the direction the program is headed.

"Going into the last week of practice for the summer is very important on which direction the program will go. We will play about eight to 10 games this week and get a practice in, then I will get a good feeling about things," he said.

The Tigers will travel to a team camp Saturday and Sunday at Auburn University. It will be the team's last camp of the summer before regular practice begins in October.
