Dawson County High School baseball player Logan Burt was named to the first team all-area by The Times of Gainesville last week. The senior played outfield and pitched for the Tigers.

The team was selected by coaches from the region.

For the Tigers, Burt had an outstanding season on the mound with a 6-1 record and a 1.15 ERA. The rising senior had 131 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. Burt also excelled from the plate with an eye-opening .440 batting average with eight doubles, three triples and three home runs. He only struck out three times all season.

"Logan [Burt] had an unbelievable year, both on the mound and at the plate. He is a player that has spent his entire childhood playing baseball every spring and summer. Logan has always worked on being the best he could be," said Thad Burgess, Dawson County head baseball coach.

Making the second team was Tiger teammate Colton Chester. Named an honorable mention was rising junior Levi Whitmire.

The first team had many elite players in its ranks.

One of which, is Pitcher-of-the-Year, Jake Higginbotham, a rising junior out of Buford High School. He recorded a perfect 9-0 record with 124 strikeouts. He also batted .417 for the Wolves.

Named player-of-the year was Gainesville rising senior Michael Gettys. He was an outfielder and a pitcher for the Red Elephants. He batted .377 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs, he was the area leader in both categories. From the mound, he recorded a 1.85 ERA with 105 strikeouts in 64 innings. He was drafted 51st overall by the Padres.
