Football schedule announced for ’14

POSTED: May 27, 2014 4:50 p.m.

Dawson County High School Head Football Coach Jeff Lee has announced the 2014 Tiger football schedule. New teams added to this year's schedule will be Gilmer County, Heritage-Catoosa, Franklin County and Johnson from Gainesville.

Franklin County is a new member of Region 7-AAA.

The Tigers just missed the state playoffs last season after posting a 5-5 record overall and a 3-4 region record.

All teams in Region 7-AAA are difficult, but Dawson County is on a collision course with West Hall on Sept. 26, which may decide the region championship.

An advantage for the Tigers is that the game will be played at Tigers Stadium. The Tigers lost to the Spartans, 10-7, in the final game last season that ousted Dawson from the playoffs.

A trip to Carnesville on Oct. 10 could also be a challenge for Lee's troops. Franklin County is coming off a disappointing 1-9 campaign last year, but the Lions have been known for good football in year's past.

The rival game with Lumpkin, who joins Region 7-AAA this season, will be played on Halloween, Oct. 31 in Dahlonega. The Indians were 2-8 last season.

Dawson County will finish the regular season with a home game against Johnson from Gainesville. The Knights were 2-8 during the 2013 season.
