With the current school year winding down, anticipation is growing with the Dawson County High School Class of 2014.

But this year, the final goodbyes will not be just for the students. The commencement ceremony will also mark the last for both Dawson County Superintendent Keith Porter and Principal Jute Wilson.

Porter, whose story you can read on the front page of this week's paper, will retire from the school system on May 31.

Wilson, who has been principal for four years, has accepted a job as Lamar County's School Superintendent. His final day is also May 31.

But, for Wilson, the focus is on the students and their milestone.

"At the moment, we have a record 260 students graduating," Wilson said of his outgoing students. "The class of 2014 has been a real joy to watch these last four years. They are an extremely talented group of young men and women who definitely made their mark on DCHS."

It's the next step in their life that their former principal believes the class of 2014 is more than ready for.

"We are confident this group is well prepared and we look forward to the many accomplishments that lie ahead in their future," he said.

You can learn more about the class of 2014 in this week's education section on page 6B.

For more information about the graduating class as a whole, see our special commemorative graduation tab inserted in this week's issue.

The Dawson County High School graduation ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Tigers Stadium at the high school.
