POSTED: May 21, 2014 4:00 a.m.

Dawson County continues to show its patriotism by placing a new round of memorial markers along the roads this week.

Community members will place 169 Veteran Memorial Markers with American Flags along the streets of Dawsonville to pay honor and respect to deceased members of the armed forces.

This Memorial Day, four new memorial markers will be placed around the old courthouse; Wade Crane, World War II; E. Clayton Reece and W.A .Wofford, Korea; and T. G. "Gunny" Moore, Vietnam.

"The patriotic members of our community helping are members of Etowah Masonic Lodge No. 222, Free & Accepted Masons, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 970, Dawsonville Lions Club, young business men of Dawson County and Chestatee Masonic Lodge No. 102 Free & Accepted Masons," said Bill Sexton. "The markers are to honor deceased men and women who have served honorably in one of the branches of military service."

Memorial Day celebrations will be held at 5 p.m. on May 26 at Veterans Memorial Park.

"Please pause and remember all Veterans on this special day," Sexton said. "Thank you Dawsonville and Dawson County for your generous support of all Veterans. It is well received and appreciated."
