A second man has been charged in connection with an October shooting in southwestern Dawson County.

According to the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, James Cletus Nichols, 61, of Dawsonville turned himself in Friday.

Nichols faces two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence and false statements.

Nichols was released from the Dawson County Detention Center after posting a $35,200 bond, according to jail records.

Sheriff's Maj. Ray Goodie said Nichols is one of two men believed to have fired shots at another man on Oct. 31 at a mobile home on Cletus Nichols Road.

Paul Henry Truelove, 58, was arrested shortly after deputies responded to reports of a shooting there, and was charged with aggravated assault.

According to Goodie, the ongoing investigation led to Nichols' arrest.

"He also had some medical issues he needed to take care before we took him into custody," he said.

The name of the man who was shot has not been released.

"It started out as a verbal altercation that resulted in a shooting incident where the victim sustained minor injuries," Goodie said.
