Dawson County has been well-represented by its Parks and Recreation track team at the recent district and state competitions.

The Tigers had nine athletes qualify for this year's Georgia Recreation and Park Association State Track Meet at the District 7 event in Jefferson at the end of April.

The Tigers had five District Champions, led by Miah Hunter, who took first place in the 14 and under girls' 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and standing long jump.

Also placing was Katya Bessiere with first in the 14 and under girls' 1,600-meters, Ethan Clark with first in the 14 and under boys' 1,600-meters, Riley Herndon with first in the 14 and under boys' standing jump, and third in the 1,600-meters and 800-meters.

Brandon Lantz rounded out the first place finishers with first in the 12 and under boys' 800-meters and second in the 400-meters dash and running long jump. He also placed third in the 800-meters event.

Following up their victory at District, Tigers' Katya Bessiere and Ethan Clark continued their dominance on the track as both defended their state titles in the 14 and under girls' and 14 and under boys' 1,600-meters.

Miah Hunter also captured a state title in the 14 and under girls' standing jump, rounding out the Tigers state champions. Hunter also placed eighth in the 14 and under girls' 100-meter and 200-meter dash.

Cody Wood made the podium, placing third in the 14 and under boys 1,600-meters. Riley Herndon placed seventh in 14 and under boys' 1,600-meters.

The three state champions are the most of any Tiger Track team since the program started four seasons ago, according to Coach Zak Moore.
