The Dawson County varsity baseball season has come to a close. The Tigers finished the season with a 15-0 loss to Buford April 25 in Buford.

Head Coach Thad Burgess' team played well during the season and finished the year with a 15-11 overall record. The Tigers played especially well over the last two weeks of the season and were able to pick up big wins over Buford, West Hall and North Hall.

"We really have had great support and that really should be a boost as we move this program ahead. It has really been a fun time the last couple of weeks as we have played really well against some very good teams. I'm excited where the program is headed," Burgess said.

Dawson County began the week with a 12-0 win at Banks County on April 22.

The game was halted due to the mercy rule after five innings.

Tiger Cooper Kicklighter picked up the win on the mound. Kicklighter pitched four innings and struck out five. He only gave up three hits.

At the plate, Zack Buchan and JT Eggert had three hits each.

Senior night was played on April 23 in front of a full house in Dawsonville. Burgess honored his three seniors Colton Chester, Logan Burt and Harley Pruitt.

Those three players responded with a huge game. Burt broke the school record with 19 strikeouts in a 4-0 victory over East Hall. He gave up two hits in the contest.

Chester hit a 2-run homer that was still soaring as the baseball passed over the outfield fence.

And Pruitt got a single in his last at-bat at home.

Levi Whitmire also contributed offensively with two hits.

"It was senior night with great weather and a big crowd. All our seniors had a big night," Burgess said. "I'm really going to miss these three senior leaders. They have been a big part of this program for the last four years."

Dawson County finished the season with four straight home wins.

Representing Region 7-AAA in the state playoffs will be Buford, North Hall, West Hall and White County. The state baseball playoffs will begin this weekend.
