The Class AAA No. 6-ranked Dawson County Lady Tigers soccer team picked up two wins last week.

On April 15, Dawson County defeated West Hall, 3-0, and on April 18 the team recorded a 6-0 shutout against Banks County.

Dawson County is currently 11-2-2 on the season and 5-1 in region play.

Coach Jed Lacey's was scheduled to play its last regular season game at East Hall yesterday. Results were unavailable at press time.

Three different Lady Tigers scored in the game against West Hall. Recording goals were Taylor Bennett and Riley Cox in the first half and Emily Queen in the second half to pick up the region victory.

Tina Libao had all three assists in the game.

Anela Melton picked up her eighth shutout of the season, a new individual school record.

The team record was 15 shutouts shared between Melton, a freshman at the time, and Kenna Seitz.

With the win, Dawson County holds a lock on second place in the region standings. The Lady Tigers have secured a playoff spot.

"This was a big game with West Hall. We were going to give West Hall all we got to lock down second place," Lacey said.

Dawson County had three goals disallowed by the referee in the match.

"The older girls have been in games like this before so I was confident what the result would be. Having Taylor Bennett, Mckay Shively, Riley Cox, Anela Melton and Tina Libao putting the team on their backs was huge in getting the younger girls ready to play in games with this importance."

West Hall managed just four shots on goal that were easily handled by Melton.

"Anela controls the back of our formation and her leadership helps the younger girls in the back to play with a lot of confidence," Lacey said.

In the April 18 game, Dawson County controlled the tempo from start to finish. The Lady Tigers scored three goals in each half for an easy 6-0 win against the visiting Lady Leopards from Banks County.

Six different Lady Tigers scored: Shively, Libao, Meghan Picklesimer, Queen, Lindsey Knotts and Riley Cox.

Recording assists were Libao, Taylor Bennett (two), Mackenzie Callas and Ava Walker.

Melton improved on the individual school shutout record with her ninth of the season.

"It was a nice win against Banks County. All 23 players got into the game tonight. I thought Emily Queen and Taylor Bennett played some of the best soccer I have seen this year," Lacey said.
