ASK THE EXPERTS

Tigers fall to White County

POSTED: April 22, 2014 4:35 p.m.

Dawson County's chance at a state play-off bid may now have come to an end. The Tigers lost an 8-0 decision to White County April 17 that ended a three-game winning streak for the Tigers.

Coach Thad Burgess' team is three games back in the loss column at 8-9 in Region 7-AAA play with four games remaining. West Hall is in fourth place with an 11-6 region record.

The Tigers are 13-9 overall.

The trip to Cleveland last Thursday wasn't very productive for the Tigers.

White County pitcher Spencer Adams, a UGA signee and possible high MLB draft choice, shut down Dawson County. Adams recorded 14 strikeouts in six innings.

White County scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in the Region 7-AAA win.

Levi Whitmire had two of the three hits that Dawson County was able to muster against Adams.

White County is now 16-6 overall and 11-6 in region play.

"We really had a great, three game run at home, beating the three top teams in the region," Burgess said. "We just could not get anything going with major league scouts in full attendance to see Spencer Adams shut us out at White [County]. After back to back hits in the first inning against him (Adams), he found his rhythm and we had no match."

On April 16 in Dawsonville it was a different story for the Tigers. Behind the strong pitching performance of Logan Burt the Tigers held off North Hall by a 5-3 score.

Burt pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts, while allowing four hits against the Trojans.

It was the third win in a row for Dawson County against the top tier in Region 7-AAA. The Tigers defeated No. 1-ranked Buford, West Hall and North Hall in successive games.

Freshman Tiger Luke Martin had a great day at the plate going 3 for 3.

Teammates Whitmire, Brody Chester and Colton Chester each collected two hits in the victory.

It was Dawson County's second win over North Hall this season.

With the loss, North Hall dropped to 15-7 and 13-4 in the region.

"It will be a busy week for us. We have four games left, three of them are on the road," Burgess said.

The Tigers will play today at home against East Hall before closing the season at Buford on Friday. The East Hall game will be Senior Night.

Dawson County has three seniors on this year's team: Colton Chester, Burt and Harley Pruitt.
