Second political forum scheduled for Tuesday

POSTED: April 9, 2014 4:00 a.m.

The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a political forum for candidates running for local elected office.

The Advocacy Committee, through the chamber, will be holding a forum Tuesday at Dawson County Middle School.

The community is invited to a meet and greet with the candidates at 6 p.m., followed by the forum at 6:30 p.m.

"Politics on the local level have the greatest impact on your everyday life and it is important to make informed decisions at the polls," said chamber president Christie Haynes. "The forum will give the opportunity to learn more about the candidates, their beliefs and their vision for our community."

Candidates for County Commission District 1, County Commission District 3, State Senate District 51, State House District 9, State House District 7, At-Large School Board and District 3 School Board will be speaking.

Candidates running without opposition are also invited, in order to briefly introduce themselves to the public.

Opening statements, questions and closing statements will be held for candidates seeking election in State House District 7 and County Commission District 1.

As no Democrats have qualified for the November elections, the race will most likely be decided in the May 20 General Primary. A second qualifying period for independent candidates will be held June 23-27 at the local board of elections and registration office on Academy Avenue.
