Ladies in top 5

POSTED: March 25, 2014 4:34 p.m.

The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers' soccer team picked up a huge 2-1 victory at White County on March 21. Dawson County had to fight back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to score two second half goals to grab the win.

The 10th-ranked Lady Warriors scored on a corner kick with 13:56 remaining before halftime on a header from Savannah Magill to take a 1-0 lead.

"We played super tight in the first half. It looked like we played not too loose," said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

After a halftime adjustment Dawson County dominated the second half, scoring goals were McKay Shively (33:28) and the game winner by Jessica Chambers with just 6:29 left to play.

It was Shively's ninth goal of the season and Chambers' first goal.

Credited with the assists were Tina Libao and Emily Queen.

Goalie Anela Melton picked up the win.

"In the second [half] we came out relaxed and played together as a team like I thought we would. This game was exactly how we thought it would be. Two top 10 teams playing to the end. This is the third year in a row this game was won by one goal," Lacey said.

Lacey said a lot of the team's win could be credited to the team's mid-fielders.

"I thought we dominated the middle with Tina Libao, Emily Queen and Jessica Chambers turning up the pressure on White and they could not attack down the middle anymore. Taylor Bennett and Mckay Shively started controlling the outside of the pitch," he said.

The Lady Tigers played at Buford on March 25. The winner of the game will be in control of the region standings. Results were not available as of press time.

Dawson County will host North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lacey's team is currently ranked No. 5 in Class AAA. The Lady Tigers are 8-0-2 for the season overall and 2-0 in region play.
