The Dawson County High School Future Business Leaders of America chapter left an impression at the state conference earlier this month.

The local FBLA chapter continued its winning streak by taking home nine awards from the state conference in Atlanta.

Cole Simmons, who served as this year's Georgia FBLA President, as well as the National FBLA President, received the Dr. Russell Mercer Who's Who in Business Education Scholarship.

The team of Martie and Korrie Rogers placed third in the state. Korrie Rogers has also been selected to represent Georgia at the FBLA National Conference this summer in Nashville on a "super team" composed of other FBLA members throughout the state that received the six highest scores in the competition.

Also placing for state rankings were: Ben Drew, eighth in word processing; Jeri Ward, seventh in business procedures and ninth in accounting I; Daniel Bettis, seventh in the state in business law; Cullen MacDonald, fourth in the state in business communications , as well as moving to the second round of interviews for future business leader.

"Dawson County High FBLA was represented on the state level by approximately 25 students who placed high enough at the Region level to advance to state," said Dawson County High School FBLA Advisor Dianne Mayfield. "To place in the top 10 in state is quite an honor. To be able to advance to the national level is outstanding."

Mayfield was also recognized at the conference, receiving the Advisor of the Year award for Region 8.

Former Dawson County FBLA Member and Alumni FBLA member Logan Porter was recognized for his work as an FBLA Alumni Member. His father, Dawson County School Superintendent Keith Porter, was selected as the Administrator of the Year for Georgia.

"I have such great respect for the FBLA as an organization, which makes this honor all the more humbling. My entire immediate family benefited from their association with the FBLA," Keith Porter said.
